Our History
The MakeUp Eraser was invented starting in 2012 by Elexis McCarthy, who removed her makeup using an expensive plush robe given as a gift by her mother-in-law. The fabric on the robe took almost all of the makeup off, deWit said. McCarthy started researching fabrics until she found the best cloth for removing makeup and uses that in her product. She, her mother, her grandma and some aunts started hand sewing the cloths in pink. While the product has grown so much that it is made overseas, the family continues to own the business with McCarthy’s husband, Daniel, as CEO.
MakeUp Erasers went on the market in June 2013.
While the cloth works well on women’s makeup, it also is used by theater companies, television news personalities, salons, spas and health clubs. The cloth, which can be washed to remove the makeup, takes off oil-based clown and Halloween makeup, as well. The company will be adding a camo cloth in November, geared toward men.
After hundreds of washings, the cloths don’t show makeup stains at all. “They come out clean,” deWit said. “Women have responded so positively to it.”
